not quite the hero

So Mike drives up to our house last night, and told me to get in the car. He said that he wanted me to see something, and that it could make Dylan really happy. We pull up to the corner of the street, and there is a turtle standing there.
Remembering back to Merideth's blog about the turtle, it did not seem to be a traumatic experience. So when Mike encouraged me to pick up the turtle to bring home, I did. That is when it started trying to claw at me. It was very aggressive. Mike told me to put it in the back of my car, but I said 'no way!'. Then I saw that I had some of those advertisement newsprint on the passenger seat, so I thought I would kind of wrap the turtle and hold it in the car. The turtle went crazy! So I dropped the turtle on the grass and we went home.
Later last night, Mike says 'I think that may have been a snapping turtle!' He read about them last night, and sure enough it was! I guess they can snap your fingers off with one bite. When Mike got to work today and told his boss about it, he knew that it was a snapping turtle right away. I guess they live in Omaha. Who knew?

I cannot believe that I picked up a snapping turtle!
